When patients have discolored teeth, dental decay, or are missing teeth, they may think that their oral health is beyond help. Suffering from multiple dental health problems may seem like an overwhelming situation. Fortunately, at Dr. Andrew G. Mortensen’s Fountain Valley cosmetic dentistry practice, there is a solution for your dental health concerns. Dr. Mortensen will customize a treatment plan to correct your oral health problems and leave you with a healthier, more attractive smile. Our Fountain Valley patients can receive full mouth reconstruction by combining a number of restorative and cosmetic dental procedures such as dental crowns, dental bridges, dentures, and gum reshaping.

Dental Crowns

For our patients in Fountain Valley, dental crowns are the best way to treat severely damaged teeth. During the dental crown treatment, a portion of your tooth will be filed down. There will just be a small center of natural tooth structure within the center of the dental crown. Placing a dental crown allows patients to continue their normal functions free of pain. In addition to treating decay or damage, dental crowns may also be used to replace old fillings or they can be used as anchors for dental bridges.

Dental Bridges

Tooth loss in adults is a major dental problem. Any tooth loss should be treated with the placement of an artificial tooth to maintain good oral health. While there are many options to consider, we recommend dental bridges for the replacement of groups of missing teeth. A dental bridge spans and fills gaps left by one to three missing teeth. Patients will need strong support to keep the dental bridge secure, so we will need to place either dental crowns or dental implants at either end of the dental bridge. With these anchors in place, a dental bridge can function as your natural teeth. If you have been missing teeth, you will notice an improvement in aesthetics, chewing, and speaking.

Dentures

For patients who are missing large gaps of teeth, dentures may be a suitable treatment. Dr. Mortensen offers the most advanced and modern dentures. These dentures function better, fit better, and look better. A cast will be made of your mouth to ensure a proper fit. When the dentures are complete, they will be connected with small dental anchors. These dentures allow for better eating and speaking and maintain the structure of your mouth to avoid further oral health problems.

Gum Reshaping

Patients who have a “gummy” smile or an uneven gum line may benefit from gum reshaping. Dr. Mortensen applies a local anesthetic and uses a high tech dental laser to reshape periodontal tissue. Besides the aesthetic benefits of gum reshaping, this procedure can also increase the health of your gums by removing plaque or tartar from under the gum line.
