Porcelain veneers give you the chance to have the striking smile you’ve always wanted. Veneers solve multiple problems in one fell swoop by camouflaging cosmetic issues with beautiful and symmetrical veneers that look like your natural teeth, only better.

Porcelain veneers are wafer-thin shells that cover the front of your teeth. They have a translucent quality that simulates natural teeth while they camouflage the cosmetic flaws that diminish your smile, including crooked, discolored, or chipped teeth. Veneers are stain-resistant and form a strong bond with your natural teeth. Since veneers are color-matched to your teeth, you can have veneers applied to all of your front teeth or just one problem tooth.

If you have wondered if porcelain veneers are a solution for your smile, cosmetic dentist Andrew G. Mortensen in Fountain Valley can answer your questions. He has used porcelain veneers to improve a variety of dental problems. In addition to hiding cracked or chipped teeth, he can improve the symmetry of a smile by cosmetically altering the shape or width of teeth using veneers.

Are Your Teeth Discolored?

Teeth whitening can be a solution for many stains, but unfortunately not all stains can be successfully treated with a bleaching agent. Intrinsic stains, those located deep within the tooth, often don’t respond to bleaching. If you have a tooth that doesn’t whiten, a veneer can hide it behind a thin porcelain shell.

Do You Have a Cracked Tooth?

If you have a cracked or chipped tooth, a porcelain veneer can easily cover the imperfection. And, if only one tooth is the problem, you will need only one veneer. It will be color-matched to nearby teeth to make it indistinguishable from your natural teeth.

Do You Have a Gap?

Porcelain veneers can visually change the shape of your tooth and close minor gaps between teeth.

Do You Have Misaligned Teeth?

If you have teeth that are slightly misaligned, porcelain veneers can cosmetically straighten your teeth. And you won’t need braces. However, if you have severe misalignment, you may not be a good candidate for veneers. Your dentist can discuss whether veneers or braces would be the best treatment for you.

Do You Have One Crooked Tooth?

If you have one crooked tooth, you can get a veneer for just that tooth. It will cosmetically improve its alignment and blend seamlessly with your natural teeth.

Are You a Good Candidate?

Good candidates for porcelain veneers are people who have healthy teeth and gums, but are dealing with minor cosmetic issues. Though beautiful, porcelain veneers are only a cosmetic solution and cannot solve major, structural issues with teeth.

Veneers also require a lifelong commitment as the process is irreversible. With proper care, veneers can last 10 years or longer, but there will be times when a veneer will need to be repaired or replaced.
