Cosmetic Dentist Andrew Mortensen’s Orange County Practice Now Offers Digital X-rays

Andrew G. Mortensen, a cosmetic dentist serving the greater Orange County area, has implemented digital x-ray equipment in his office.

“We are very excited to be using this cutting-edge technology in our office,” Dr. Mortensen said. “It offers a number of advantages to our patients over analog x-rays. It is more accurate, and actually more environmentally friendly.”

Using dental cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), this tool is able to render a high-resolution, three-dimensional image of a patient’s tooth roots, jaw, and facial bone structure. This technology is often used to determine the best positions for dental implants. Interference with the sinuses is always a risk during implant surgery, but digital x-rays can be used to identify the safest place to insert an implant.

The digital x-ray scanner is attached to a rotating mechanical arm that moves in a full circle around the patient’s head. Patients need no special preparation before the scan begins.

Once a scan has been taken, the image becomes instantly visible, both to the patient and the doctor. The image can be enlarged and enhanced, and contrast changes can be made immediately. This not only helps Dr. Mortensen to provide better care, but also helps him to illustrate diagnoses and treatments for his patients.

“We believe patients should have a good understanding of the treatments they receive, and why we recommend them in the first place,” Dr. Mortensen said. “Digital x-rays give patients an amazingly clear view into the more complex aspects of their dental health.”

Digital x-rays produce less waste than analog x-rays, making them a more environmentally friendly option. No film or chemicals are necessary to produce referential images when using cone beam technology.

Dr. Mortensen has served Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, and Orange County as a general, restorative, and cosmetic dentist for more than 30 years.
