The teeth are just like the rest of the body in that, despite a person’s best efforts, they will begin to show signs of wear and tear as a person ages. Dr. Andrew G. Mortensen understands that his senior patients are going to have dental needs that are unique to their stage of life. In order to allow his senior patients to continue to enjoy a healthy, attractive smile that is fully functioning, he provides these patients with dental care services, such as restorative dentistry care to restore tooth and gum health. At our Fountain Valley practice, dental care for seniors helps our elderly patients meet their oral health needs and preserves the dignity and confidence that comes with a strong, beautiful set of teeth.

General Dentistry

General dentistry services are important throughout a patient’s life and continue to offer benefits as a patient reaches his or her senior years. Routine dental exams allow Dr. Mortensen to monitor oral health, examine the strength and structure of the teeth and jawbone, and screen for signs of oral cancer, all of which are of great importance to our senior patients. Professional cleanings, which are recommended at least twice yearly (along with a dental exam) are beneficial in cleansing the teeth and gums and preventing tooth decay and other oral complications. After a dental exam and cleaning has been performed, Dr. Mortensen will discuss with patients the state of their oral health and recommend any necessary follow-up treatment.

Restorative Dentistry

As the body ages, so do the teeth. No matter how well a person cares for the teeth, senior patients are likely to experience decay, erosion, or a weakening of the teeth. Restorative dental treatments can rebuild tooth structure that has been lost or damaged to allow our senior patients to strengthen the teeth and improve oral function. Below are some restorative dental treatments that can help seniors restore the strength, function, and beauty of the teeth:
