Instant Smile Makeover By Andrew Mortensen, DDS on August 24, 2020

woman with beautiful smileTraditional smile makeovers use a combination of cosmetic dental treatments and can require several appointments. However, an instant smile makeover with veneers gives you the smile of your dreams much faster. With an instant smile makeover at our Fountain Valley, CA, dental practice, we work closely with our patients to address the unique reasons they are unhappy with their smiles.

Dr. Andrew Mortensen combines his experience and an artistic eye to provide makeovers that address crooked, chipped, gapped, misaligned, or discolored teeth. He customizes each smile makeover for an enhanced appearance.

What Are Veneers?

Veneers are thin yet durable porcelain shells that a dentist applies to the front surface of one or more teeth. Dentists carefully design these restorations to match your surrounding teeth for a natural look. They are resilient and with proper care, last for 10-15 years on average. In some cases, Dr. Mortensen might use composite resin instead.

Who Can Benefit from an Instant Smile Makeover?

An instant smile makeover works best for individuals with minor to moderate issues. The team at our Fountain Valley, CA, office uses veneers to treat misshapen or uneven teeth. Veneers also work for slightly misaligned or gapped teeth. For teeth with deep permanent stains, veneers can transform their color.

To receive veneers, patients should have healthy teeth and gums. If you have gum disease or tooth decay, your dentist will have to treat these issues before proceeding with veneers. The instant smile makeover also works better for patients who are in overall good health. Patients with severely crooked teeth, larger gaps, or extreme cracks and chips are not usually good candidates for veneers.

What Happens during a Consultation?

During a one-on-one consultation with our dentist, you will have the opportunity to discuss your aesthetic goals. Dr. Mortensen will take x-rays and examine your teeth and oral health to determine if you are an appropriate candidate. The dentist will also take your facial features into account when designing your veneers to accomplish optimal results.

How Are Veneers Placed?

In our dental office, we install veneers in two appointments. During the first visit, Dr. Mortensen preps the affected teeth by removing a small amount of enamel from the surface. Next, he takes an impression of your teeth, which he sends to the lab. The lab will create your customized, permanent veneers. The doctor will place temporary veneers on your teeth until the permanent ones are ready.

During your second visit, our dentist ensures that the veneers fit properly and look and feel natural. He then bonds the veneers to your teeth with a strong dental cement.

What Should I Expect Afterward?

There is no downtime with veneers, and you should be able to resume your normal activities right away. Your dentist will give you detailed instructions on how to care for your veneers. Typically, you treat veneers like your natural teeth, including a daily regimen of brushing and flossing. Additionally, you should see your dentist for regular check-ups.
